Made it out! (Jan 6-8) Surprised to see there were quite a few people out and about! TONS of camping spots available though. Jay M wanted to know if there is any water in Barker Dam so I did a quick hike through for him. YES there is - quite a bit. It's not full, but it's not empty either. Ducks are happy. Sorry but I don't know how to attach photos but happy to share. Went up to the Miner's Cabin (between Desert Queen and Split Rock). The cache which disappeared in 2004 is going strong again. Found a note inside about how the Staub's bumped into "Don M" at Split Rock who showed them photos and gave them directions. Someone else has written across the bottom of the note: Curses Don M! Also did the Wall Street Mill so I could take photos, and some non-trail hiking from camp. Found the weather to be absolutely lovely! Warm during the day (t-shirt) and with appropriate wear just fine at night (sweat pants over jeans and sweatshirt or jacket). One 20 degree sleeping bag was sufficient. Tent interior hot by 9 a.m. CLEAR skies day and night! Enjoyed the sunsets, then the stars, then the moon rise. Ready to go again! TL
