I might seem romantic and ideal to us, but I'm afraid the Key's children felt very isolated and couldn't wait to leave the area. The only one remaining at all nearby, is co-owner, along with her husband, of Gary's Tires in Joshua Tree, and I doubt you can get her to talk about the Ranch or her father much unless you are a customer. I bought at least some of my tires there, and got to know her a little, and enjoyed her debunking of things I heard from various tour guides of Key's Ranch. One thing for sure about Bill Keys, he did like to tell a tall tale now and again! Unfortunately some got recorded as the truth. At least some of the tour guides have made an effort to interview the various children, so be sure to ask about them next time you take a tour.
